World Environment Day – June 5
Raise your voice, not the sea level.
World Environment Day is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. The theme for the 2014 event is ‘Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level’, in recognition of the importance of preventing climate change to save small island nations from the sea level rises that threaten them.
“Planet Earth is our shared island, let us join forces to protect it.”
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the launch of the 2014 International Year of Small Islands and Developing States
While many organisations acknowledge this day, it also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet. On the World Environment Day website you can join a challenge or find out more about what is happening the world over on this day
