Refugee Action Collective Rally

A few weeks ago some of us at Sophia’s Spring were pondering just how such a small number of us could make our voices heard in relation to our dissatisfaction about our government’s treatment of refugees and asylum seekers. This rally is just the kind of thing we were talking about:
Refugee Action Collective
Major rally against Rudd’s PNG deal
1pm Saturday August 24
State Library
cnr Swanston & Latrobe Sts, City
We are calling for an end to the PNG plan and offshore processing. We are calling for an end to mandatory detention, and an end to the indefinite detention of refugees with adverse ASIO assessments.
Processing and resettling asylum seekers in the Australian community, rather than in detention or offshore, would be both cheaper and more humane, potentially saving billions that could be spent providing resources for the whole community
The UCA Synod of Victoria & Tasmania is officially supporting the rally. The Synod encourages as many people as possible to come and rally with the Moderator, and gather behind the UCA banners.
