Palm Sunday March

Australia accepts nearly 200,000 migrants each year, but only 13,750 refugees. We can afford to be more generous and accept more people fleeing persecution and life threatening situations in our region.  Australia currently ranks only 49th in the world for refugee intake per capita, or 91st when our national wealth is taken into account.  Yet, our current policies regarding asylum seekers violate human rights and are a breach of the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention.  Many in our community are outraged at the treatment of refugees.  In order  to show  support for those seeking asylum in Australia and to demonstrate our disagreement with the Government’s current policies and practice, the Refugee Advocacy Network has organised a march on Palm Sunday.  Uniting Church people will be gathering at 1.30pm in front of Wesley Uniting Church in Lonsdale Street and processing down to the State Library in Swanston Street for the 2.00pm start.

Please join us and bring your friends.
