A Prayer for New Year

sailing-boat-at-sunset

Crackers pop and Catherine wheels spin
where once bells would have rung
to declare New Year has begun.

Here in this bright,  shiny time
we have, again,
the chance to check our place in the universe,
to realign
and chart another course.
Not to be set adrift but bouyed with intent,
fueled with hope, curried with curiosity,
animated by mystery.

Holy Sophia, be the wind in our sails,
help us navigate risk and adventure
as we push out into unknown waters.
Guide us away from storm, and
every now and then, to safe harbour.

May love be the cargo we carry and share.
Alive and ready, we will dare
to live authentically.
