Reflecting on Luke 20:27-38
This fabulous image of a Frida Kahlo painting (you can read more about it here ) graced our orders of service this week as Steve reflected on the Luke passage about ‘the barren woman’ or one bride for seven brothers.
In keeping with the theme of fertility, fecundity and family, Di set the table with lush garden greens and led us in the following candle lighting liturgy:
Lighting of candles
We light this candle for God the Creator
We celebrate the gifts of spring, rain on the roof, dripping trees, sun breaking through clouds and gentle breezes
We light a candle for God the Nurturer
We give thanks for new shoots sprouting, spinach and silverbeet growing, tall weeds, colour in the garden and wine and food shared with friends.
We light a candle for all who walk on the earth and live on earth recognising how fragile our eco systems are
We tread gently on the earth as we strive to be mindful of scarce resources.
We light a candle for those who seek to be accepted by their communities and the wider church.
We embrace and accept those people who are differently abled and differently labelled.
We light this candle for Sophia as we seek her Wisdom to travel with us on our journey.
May we walk in Wisdom’s way with hope and love in our hearts.
